Cruises depart from the dock near the Aquarium's IMAX Theater entrance. Reservations and cameras are strongly recommended. The Oceanic can accommodate 31 passengers. Walk-up tickets will be sold, space permitting. All passengers must be over 42" tall.

Marine Life Study Cruise

These exciting outings introduce participants to animals that live in the different habitats of the Sound, from the sunlit surface to the muddy bottom. Besides being a lot of fun, the cruises show first-hand why Long Island Sound is a vital natural resource. On each 2 1/2-hour cruise, Maritime Aquarium educators involve participants in collecting marine life at all depths. An on-board video microscope provides a closer look at the diversity of marine life caught at the surface. A "mud grab" opens up (to both eyes and nose) a hidden world of life and decay. And everyone helps inspect the trawl net's harvest: usually a variety of crabs, fish, lobsters and always a few surprises.

Cost of a Marine Life Study Cruise is $20.50 ($18.50 for Maritime Aquarium members). Marine Life Study Cruises also are available by charter for summer camps, schools, Scouts and other groups. Biodiversity Database

What is Biodiversity?
The Long Island Sound Biodiversity Database is a searchable web resource to monitor trends on Long Island Sound. Partners collecting data include The Maritime Aquarium, SoundWaters, SoundKeeper and the Bridgeport Aquaculture School.

Data is collected on 125 species of marine organism and water quality variables including pH, salinity, temperature, turbidity and dissolved oxygen. You can go to the database at the link below and run your own reports.
