Sand Tiger Shark Fun Fact

Looks closely at the sand tiger sharks in the "Ocean Beyond the Sound" exhibit. Their snout and jaws are covered in tiny holes. These are receptors for the sharks' "sixth sense" – their ability to detect bioelectric fields emitted by other animals (including potential prey).

Join us after-hours for a behind-the-scenes-tour, special IMAX® screenings and demonstrations of some of our most popular education programs, from pre-K to high school. Meet our education staff and learn how we are remaking our standards-based programs to meet the current needs of teachers and students.

The "Fish School" open house also includes free screenings of the IMAX films “Island of Lemurs: Madagascar" (at 6 p.m.) and “Humpback Whales” (at 7 p.m.), which you can incorporate into lessons about conservation, habitats, adaptations, geography, interdependencies and more. The Maritime Aquarium is conveniently located just off of Interstate 95 in Norwalk, CT. Go green with a trip on Metro-North Railroad. We are a 15-minute walk from the South Norwalk station. If you cannot bring your students to the Aquarium, ask how our Traveling Teachers can bring the Aquarium to your classroom.
