All badge-achievement programs completely fulfill the requirements for that badge. (The Maritime Aquarium, however, does not issue badges.)

Other than Sleepovers, the programs in this brochure do not include Maritime Aquarium admission. However, discount coupons will be given for use toward admission on the day of your program.

Troops must supply 1 adult for every 7 Scouts, and there must be at least 7 Scouts in a program. $5 charge for each extra adult or sibling over 2 years old.

Brownies Badge Programs

Animals
Do you have a pet? What do you need to do to take care of it? Come learn how the Aquarium takes care of our animals and what to do if you find an injured wild animal. Tour our main exhibits, observe the animals as they move about and sense their environment, learn how scientists group animals, and how to set up a basic salt-water tank. Includes hands-on with intertidal animals! 2 hrs., 45 min. $18 per Scout.

Eco-Explorer
Come see animals in their habitats and learn how to set up a salt-water tank, play a food web game, learn about local endangered and threatened species, and make a habitat craft to take home. 2 hrs., 45 mi. $18 per Scout.
Watching Wildlife
Tour our main exhibits to see where animals hide. Look for different colors and patterns on the fish and try to find camouflaged flounder. Learn how animals communicate through sounds and behaviors. And see what we feed to some of our resident animals. 1 hr., 45 min. $15 per Scout.
Water Everywhere
Find out what makes up water and how much water is in different things, including in YOU! Experiment to learn how salt water is different from fresh water. Observe animals in their marine environments by touring our main exhibits. “Pollute” a landscape and learn how to keep our waterways and drinking water clean. 2 hrs., 45 min. $18 per Scout.

Junior Girl Scouts Badge Programs

Earth Connections
Explore a nearby beach to record the various plants and animals found in the coastal habitats. Investigate sand particles in different areas and learn how the beach can change over time. After lunch back at the Aquarium, analyze your data and consider seasonal changes. “Pollute” a landscape to learn about non-point source pollution. Tour the main exhibits and learn about efforts to improve the marine environment. 5 hrs., 45 min., with travel and lunch break. $23 per Scout.

Wildlife
Discover our state symbols. Take a behind-the-scenes tour, learning about threatened and endangered species in Long Island Sound and how we take care of our resident animals. Learn about the needs and behaviors of various live critters as you draw and identify them using hand lenses, microscopes and an identification key. Learn how whales are identified and participate in a whale adaptation feeding activity. 2 hrs., 45 mi. $18 per Scout.

Water Fun
Learn about life on the water! With an Aquarium educator as your guide, walk the nearby River Walk and use your senses to discover signs of life – listen for water and birds, and smell the salty air. Watch for the ways that people are using the water. Look for pollution and observe the waste-water treatment plant. Back in the Aquarium, write about and share your experience. Make a sailor’s knot bracelet, and learn about life vests and the HELP survival position. 1 hr., 45 min. $15 per Scout.
Water Wonders
Explore the water cycle and how fresh water is different from salt water. Learn about storm drains and how water gets cleaned so it is safe for our uses. Investigate plankton and participate in a food-web activity. Take a behind-the-scenes tour to observe animals and their needs, and to learn about their lives in their watery habitats. 2 hrs., 45 min. $18 per Scout.

Cadet Badge Program

Shore to Sea
Go behind the scenes to learn about animals and their needs, as well as about careers here at the Aquarium. Learn how organizations, like Sea Grant, help to educate people about the marine world and how technology helps scientists to gain knowledge about the oceans. Learn how global warming impacts the oceans. Investigate sand and live animals with hands-on activities. 2 hrs., 45 min. $18 per Scout.

Wild Life
Come to the beach to learn about coastal ecology. Record weather and water data, find and identify animals, and discuss invasive species and the effects of using fertilizers on estuarine life. After a 45-minute break for travel to the Aquarium and lunch, spend time observing a live animal and use our computer lab to investigate animal information. Interview an educator about careers in marine biology. 4 hrs., 45 mi. includes travel and lunch break. $20 per Scout.
