Annual Fund

The Maritime Aquarium runs 24/7, with advanced life support systems and dedicated personnel who care for each and every one of our 1,200 animals. In addition to supporting operations, the Annual Fund ensures that there is always something new to learn, do or see.  It provides for exhibit maintenance and development as well as educational experiences for over 130,000 teachers and students from the tri-state area. It is essential and the most flexible support that we receive.

The Red Apple Fund for Student Enrichment

Since 1988, the Red Apple Fund for Student Enrichment has brought science to life for more than 1.3 million students of all ages and backgrounds from across the region. The centerpiece of the Aquarium’s commitment to marine science and environmental education, the Red Apple Fund is the educational outreach and financial assistance program for students and teachers, impacting 130,000 schoolchildren, 40% of whom are from underserved districts.

Fund scholarships for 27,500+ students and their teachers for participation in marine science and environmental education sessions.
Supports development of 25 standards and inquiry-based programs
Provides out-of-school field ecology experiences to students and teachers
Provide after-school science enrichment programs
Support the talented educators who deliver these programs
Purchase a fuel-efficient vehicle for Traveling Teacher and Camp Programs
Upgrade in-house classroom technology
Purchase scientific equipment and supplies

Children's Opportunity Fund

There are plenty of children who have never seen a shark, lobster or crab, have never stepped foot on a boat or even visited a museum.  The Children’s Opportunity Fund provides “family” visits to youth (under 18) who, due to personal circumstances, may not normally have access to the Aquarium. Among the beneficiaries are agencies providing assistance to “at risk” youth and children with special needs. Last year, 25 Connecticut organizations were chosen to participate as beneficiaries of the Fund, including the New Haven Boys and Girls Club, Special Olympics of Connecticut in Hamden, ConnectiKids in Hartford, and Kids in Crisis in Cos Cob.  Thousands of deserving children throughout Connecticut have benefited to date.
