Each of our badge programs will feature Aquarium animals and exhibits, and a hands-on activity to help fulfil one or two requirements for earning the badge or journey!

  • Add-on Programs can be booked in conjunction with an overnight. Can take place at 5 p.m. the evening before an overnight (recommended) or at 10 a.m. the morning after. These programs are a shorter length as scouts receive an extensive Aquarium tour during the overnight program.
  • Full Programs can be booked without an overnight. Can be booked on afternoons, weekends, school breaks, etc.

Please note: All scout programs require a minimum of 5 scouts for booking. We require 1 chaperone for every 7 scouts. Please allow for 4 weeks notice when booking adventure programs.  Adventure program pricing does not include Aquarium or 4D theater admission. Groups of 10 or more can purchase Aquarium admission and 4D experiences separately.

Think like a Citizen Scientist - Daisy and Brownies (K-2)
Add-on program | 60 minutes | $8 per person
Full program | 90 minutes | $12 per person

We will learn how scientists are able to study animals in their natural habitats, then practice our new skills at different aquarium exhibits. We will finish this program learning how we can use our senses to help us identify animals when we cannot see them. This program will help complete requirements for Daisy and Brownie Think Like a Scientist Journey.

Pets Badge – Brownies
Add-on program | 60 minutes | $8 per person
Full program | 90 minutes | $12 per person

We will talk about the care our pets need and how we provide that care to aquarium animals. We will discover how we feed our sharks and tortoises and learn about activities we do to keep the animals healthy and safe. Then you will make a home for our favorite animal using general crafting materials. This program will help complete requirements 1, 2, 3, and 5 of the Brownies Pets Badge.

Animal Habitats Badge – Juniors
Add-on program | 60 minutes | $8 per person
Full program | 90 minutes | $12 per person

To help us learn about animals all over the world, we will visit the animals we have in our care at the aquarium. Just like scientists, we will study the animals in their habitat to understand how they are able to survive, and discuss what may happen if their home changes. Use general crafting materials to create a habitat for our favorite animal thinking about all the things it needs to survive. This program will help complete requirements 1, 2, 3, and 4 of the Animal Habitats Badge.

Floats & Boats Adventure (Tiger Scouts)
Add-on Program | 60 Minutes | $8 per person
Full Program | 90 minutes | $12 per person

Take a dive at the Maritime Aquarium! During this program, we will visit our seals, identify different structures they have, and explore how they are able to survive in their ocean habitat. It’s easy for us to learn about the seals at the aquarium, but how do scientists study seals? From a boat, of course! Let’s create a boat together using any recycled materials you can find. Gather your materials, and get ready to get wet! This program will help meet requirement #6 for the Floats and Boats adventure.

Adventures in Science (Webelos Scouts)
Add-on Program | 60 Minutes | $8 per person
Full Program | 90 minutes | $12 per person

Visit the Maritime Aquarium virtually to study some of our underrated stars: Jellies and Corals! We will introduce the variety of jellies and corals we have on exhibit, and understand how they are able to survive in their habitats. We will also take a look at some of the challenges the corals can face in the ocean, and brainstorm some ways to help. To learn more about what affects corals, we will do hands on pH experiments using acids and bases found in the kitchen.  This program will help meet requirement 3g for the Adventures in Science adventure.

Spirit of the Water (Wolf Scouts)
Add-on Program | 60 Minutes | $8 per person
Full Program | 90 minutes | $12 per person

Take a dive into the world of turtles at the Maritime Aquarium. What makes a turtle a turtle, and how are they able to live on land and in the ocean? We will explore the different types of turtles we have at the aquarium, and learn how sea turtles differ from those living on land. We will discuss challenges sea turtles face in the ocean (including pollution), and brainstorm ways to help sea turtles. But how did these challenges come about? We will need to get messy and wet to find out how pollution gets into the water through hands on activities! This program will help meet requirements 1 & 2 for the Spirit of the Water adventure.

Super Science Adventure (Bears Scouts)
Add-on Program | 60 Minutes | $8 per person
Full Program | 90 minutes | $12 per person

Sharks are one of our most misunderstood animals at the aquarium. Join us virtually to learn about the amazing reasons why sharks are top of the food chain. We will spend time learning about shark structures that help them survive in the ocean. To help us understand how shark swim, we need to get wet! Bring your bucket of water, and materials to help demonstrate how things may sink or float. As we experiment about buoyancy, we will discuss how this works, and how it relates to sharks. This workshop will help meet requirement #3 for the Super Science adventure.

A Bear goes Fishing (Bear Scouts)
Add-on Program | 60 Minutes | $8 per person
Full Program | 90 minutes | $12 per person

Join us for a tour of our “fishier” exhibits at the Maritime Aquarium. We will get a chance to see different fish from the Long Island Sound ecosystem, and understand what makes each of them unique. Why does one fish stay at the bottom? What is coming from under that fish’s nose? How are they different from sharks? How can humans affect their habitats? We will learn about all that and more! This workshop will help meet requirement #1 and #2 for A Bear Goes Fishing.

Our Mission

Mission: The Maritime Aquarium inspires people of all ages to appreciate and protect the Long Island Sound ecosystem and the global environment through living exhibits, marine science, and environmental education.
