Does your child love the Aquarium touch tanks? If so, “A House for Hermit Crab” party is the perfect way to celebrate your child’s birthday! Using Eric Carle’s classic story about a hermit crab outgrowing his shell as motivation, party guests will consider the differences between living and non-living things. Afterwards, you and your party guests will meet and touch live crabs and mollusks, sorting and classifying them by size, shape and other attributes. Our final activity will be creating hermit crabs out of craft materials, and then it's time for cake or refreshments!
There’s a beach in Hawaii called Turtle Town where people come from all over the world to view sea turtles up close … but your birthday party guests don’t need to travel thousands of miles for face-to-face encounters with turtles! Through hands-on activities and crafts, guests will compare turtles of land and sea to discover how the creatures are adapted to their terrestrial and aquatic lifestyles. They also will examine the look and feel of turtle shells, and, best of all, meet and touch a live terrapin! Afterwards, your birthday party guide will take you and your party guests to visit our Sea Turtle Exhibit. Then it's time for cake and refreshments!
Touching a live shark is a memorable experience. But that’s just one element of this exciting birthday party! Birthday party guests will start off with a behind-the-scenes visit to the Aquarium’s Open Ocean Exhibit, home of our Sand Tiger and Lemon Sharks. Afterwards, guests will examine shark teeth and jaws, feel the sandpapery texture of shark skin, make a shark craft and learn how superb adaptations have allowed sharks to survive for millions of years through a visit with a chain catshark. Then, your safari guide will lead you and your party guests to our Shark and Ray Touch Pool to safely touch small sharks and a variety of rays (cousins of sharks). Then it's time for cake and refreshments!
