Pollution, climate change, boat damage and other threats have taken a severe toll on coral reefs worldwide. Now a new disease, of unknown cause, is endangering reefs in Florida.
In a massive rescue effort, disease-free Florida corals were collected and are being cared for here and at other AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums) institutions. It is hoped once the disease outbreak passes, these corals will be returned to Florida and help to ensure the survival of the important iconic reefs.
