Just Add Water

Now open!

Trace a path from desert to rain forest – and meet animals of those environments, such as tortoises, quail, an owl, macaws, tamarins, a porcupine and skunk - in this new permanent exhibit!

This new second-floor exhibit consists of separate biomes – that is, distinct communities of plants and animals that have adapted to a defined physical climate. The biomes of “Just Add Water” transition from arid desert – through grasslands and temperate forests, among others – to tropical rain forest.

Animals displayed in “Just Add Water” include a savannah monitor lizard, a Cuvier’s dwarf caiman (related to alligators), Gambel’s quail, a striped skunk, a prehensile-tail porcupine, a screech owl, Geoffroy’s tamarins (a type of monkey), and blue and gold macaws.

In addition, the Aquarium’s rare 6-foot black dragon has relocated into “Just Add Water.” More than a dozen species of fish will populate different biomes.

And, after spending the summer in a special outdoor display, a group (or creep) of leopard tortoises will eventually move in to “Just Add Water” too.
