World Ocean Day, held annually on June 8, aims to raise awareness of the impact of human actions on the ocean, as well as mobilize and unite the world’s population in support for the sustainable management of the world's ocean.
The Maritime Aquarium is expanding this day with our World Ocean Week celebration! Here are just some of the fun festivities we have planned:

Interactive Art Activity | 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Thursday, June 8
Local artist and activist Kat Owens will be joining us on World Ocean Day for a special hands-on activity! Kat's "Entangled and Ingested" project consists life-sized portraits of the animals harmed by plastic pollution by hand-sewing plastic film onto canvas. During this event, you can help Kat hand sew the film onto canvas to create a life-sized portrait of the humpback whale. No sewing experience or skills required! This activity is free with Aquarium admission.

This family-friendly activity will have guests traveling around the Aquarium for the chance to win awesome prizes! First, pick up a special passport at our Passport Control Booth at the entrance into Newman’s Own Hall. The journey then continues to special activity stations that represent each of the earth’s five ocean basins – Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Arctic, and Southern.
